Aabla: work done in mirror and its famous in Rajasthan and Kutch.

AARI (Patched):  It is also known as khatla work. A type of fine embroidery used in creating refined and intricate floral motifs.  Aari work is done on a cot.

Asharfi Buti : A  design consisting of small floral discs or circles, sometimes with small patterns within the circle. It is used in Indian ethnic embroidery.

Aubergine:  A dark purple color like that of eggplant.

BADLA:  Badla is a thin metal strip which is used in embroidery and needle work is done with a flattened gold or silver wire.

Bandhani:  Is a type of dyeing practiced mainly in the states of Rajasthan and Gujarat, India.

Basketweave: A style of weave or a pattern resembling basketwork. 

Benarasi Silk: Fabric made from finely woven silk yarn from the city of Benares (Varanasi) in Uttar Pradesh.

Brocade: A rich fabric, usually silk, woven with a raised pattern typically with gold and silver thread. 

Burn-out Velvet: The burn-out look is created when fiber-eating chemicals are printed on the fabric instead of color. The desired pattern is left imprinted in the velvet leaving the backing untouched.

Butas: Motifs composed of floral forms fitted into paisley shapes derived from the Mughal era.

BUTI: commonly used in Indian apparel designs and they are smaller than butas.

Charmeuse Silk Fabric:  a soft, lightweight, drapable fabric of silk or synthetic fibers, having a semi lustrous satin face and a dull back.

Choli: A short midriff baring blouse worn with a sari or lengha.
 A light, sheer fabric typically made of silk or nylon.

Chiffon Silk:  Chiffon silk fabric is a soft and lightweight transparent fabric. It can be weaved with other manmade and cotton fibers.

Dabka: Gold wire embroidery set in a coiled, spring formation.

Georgette: A sheer, strong silk or silk like clothing fabric with a dull, creped surface.

Gota:  Narrow ribbon made of 'gold' or 'silver' thread.

Halter top:A sleeveless bodice with a high choke or wrap neck that may be backless.

Lengha: a floor length skirt worn with a blouse or choli.

Lycra: A fiber made from elasticated yarns known for its elasticity.

Net: Open fabric which is created by knotting the intersections a woven, knitted, or crocheted material to form a mesh- like appearance that won't ravel.

Pallu: The decorated end of a sari which is draped around the torso or left loose over the shoulder.

Petticoat: Ankle length undergarment worn with a sari to give its shape. Sari petticoats usually match the color of the sari and are made of satin or cotton. The sari is tucked into the petticoat.

Resham: Fine silk thread-work.

Sari:  A six yard garment of cotton, silk, georgette, crepe, net, etc. Elaborately draped around the body, traditionally worn by women from the Indian subcontinent.

Sequins: Sequins are disk shaped beads used for decorative embroidery styles on different fabrics. They are available in a wide variety of colors and geometrical shapes. Sequins are embroidered into the fabric to add grace to that material.

Tilla work: A metallic thread of gold and silver used as decorative surface embellishment which is stitched down with cotton thread. Tilla embroidery can be stitched in loops, in a coil form or a straight line.

Tulle:  A soft, fine silk, cotton, or nylon material like net, used for making veils and dresses. Used under lenghas to give extra volume.

Zardosi: Intricate hand embroidery using gold, silver or multi-colored wire on a variety of fabrics.

Zari: Is a type of thread made of fine gold or silver wire used in traditional Indian and Pakistani garments. This thread is woven into fabrics, primarily made of silk to create intricate patterns. It is believed this tradition started during the Mughal era.
